We are 2 weeks old!!

This week we are learning to breastfeed and seem to be getting the hang of it!  Mommy and Daddy had to take infant CPR and passed! Daddy also installed our car seats in the Tahoe to prepare for the car seat class.

Jaxen is up to 3lb 13oz and Owyn is up to 4lb.

We are one week old today!

Boy oh Boy time flies by, can’t believe our boys are 1 week old already!

Both boys are being prepared to be transferred to their big boy beds really soon! In order to be upgraded they have to be able to keep their body temperature.  They also had their soft soft moldable beds removed to get them use to a firmer surface.

They are at their max feeding volume for their weight.  This will be increased as they get bigger.  We couldn’t be happier on how far they have come in just one week!

Bath Time!

Jaxen gained 10 grams, Owyn lost a few, but also finally got rid of a lot of meconium.  They’ve both had their IVs removed, so the only thing left is their feeding tubes which will stay in for a couple more weeks until they learn how to eat.  Both boys are still under the light for jaundice but they’ll re-test tomorrow.

Mommy finally got out of the hospital for a few hours today to see the pups at home and get some sunlight.  She also gave both boys baths today.  Photos here! http://1drv.ms/1tVCkgz

Sweet, boring babies!

It’s taken a bit of time to update our blog, but the main reason is due to the lack of news to share!  They tell us we have “boring babies” but in a very positive way =).  The boys’ infection results came back this morning – negative!  They were taken off their antibiotics.  They’re also off their CPAPs since they were breathing room air and not needing any oxygen.  Today they will also most likely have their IVs removed since they’re almost up to full feeding levels.  They’re a little jaundice so they also each got bilirubin lights and some cool shades to protect their eyes from the blue light.  Also their food is being supplemented with extra protein as they are occasionally spitting up some of their meals, but not enough to cause any concern.

Mommy was officially discharged around lunch time today, so we’re no longer having to bounce back and forth between the NICU and her room which is great!  However, now that she no longer has a room, we unfortunately can no longer receive any flowers or balloons since they aren’t allowed in the NICU.

The doctors say the boys are doing so well they will most likely be transferred to “Level 2” NICU care which is for those who aren’t critical and in need of constantly close watch, so we may end up being moved across the street to the Texas Children’s West Tower which is the building that we stayed in during our time with Nathan and Kaleb two years ago.

The boys are being spoiled regularly spending plenty of “skin-to-skin” aka “Kangaroo care” time clung onto both of our chests.  This is also helping Mommy make even MORE milk which she’s already way ahead of the curve on!  By today or tomorrow we will no longer need to rely on donor milk.  Both the nurses and milk bank are quite impressed, especially considering it’s only day 3!
