Update 11:40am 11/7

Nathan will not be getting the riskier surgery that was originally planned for him, but now they will be doing less invasive surgery that can be done without anesthesia which involves pulling his tummy tube all the way through to the other side so it can drain out both sides, and washing out anything that has accumulated in his abdomen.  That procedure should be completed within a couple hours.

Kaleb’s oxygen saturation levels have been low for the past two days and they’re still trying to bring it back up to normal range to make sure his body is receiving enough oxygen throughout.

Wakeup call 6:30a

Doctors now think Nathan’s tummy discoloration is due to an infection and an operation will happen asap this morning. They will go in with a scope and remove any infected tissue from his intestinal area. They may also need to temporarily divert his intestines to an external path (colostomy) to allow the intestines to finish developing. Surgery should commence within a couple hours. Nurses just finished pricking his heel for a blood test and he has a good grip on mommy’s finger the whole time.

Waiting for an update on Kaleb but he still appears very puffy and dark in color.

Update 11pm CST 11/6

Doctors say Kalebs lungs are very expanded from the high amount of oxygen he’s receiving which is pressing on his heart and blood vessels so they’re trying new things tonight. Nathan’s belly is a bit darker today and his numbers aren’t as good as yesterday so they did an ultrasound but can’t tell if it’s internal bleeding or fluid. They took a sample of the fluid coming from his tummy tube and are sending it off for a culture.

The folks over at Cameron sent us an wonderful gift today. Thanks Cameron team!

Were off to try to get a few hours of rest.

Quick morning update

Both boys are getting picc lines this afternoon.  Nathan already has one, but two ports of access is needed now since the IVs aren’t lasting. Kaleb doesn’t have one so they are going to try to insert one today with 2 ports just like his brother.

More updates later today after the procedures.
